Why You Should Consider Going Cruelty Free

Hellooo everyone, so today I’d like to talk about something very near and dear to my heart something I am very passionate about as a person and that is being cruelty free I have proudly stamped myself with the cruelty free badge for just over a year and half now and I will never consider going back. I am going to lay some facts down for you that might make you have a second thought about what companies you buy from, don’t worry this post won’t be actually showing any distressing photographic things of what happens to the animals that are tested on but I will be informing you of what happens so this is just a little trigger warning I guess.

*WARNING GRAPHIC WRITING CONTENT *

There are many different types of animal testing such as science for example I don’t agree with any of them but for this post I am going to be focusing on cosmetics and house hold items that are tested on animals, this post really took it out of me and I feel mentally drained and cried a lot when doing my research to get the facts right for you but I am super sensitive to animals been hurt in any way and I am writing this in the hopes that someone will become educated and they might change their mind.

I found this statement from the humane society international about what happens to animals whilst being tested for cosmetic reasons, I couldn’t put it into my own words as it made me feel slightly sick this is still a on going thing. ” Typically, animal tests for cosmetics include skin and eye irritation tests where chemicals are rubbed onto the shaved skin or dripped into the eyes of rabbits; repeated oral force-feeding studies lasting weeks or months to look for signs of general illness or specific health hazards, such as cancer or birth defects; and even widely condemned “lethal dose” tests, in which animals are forced to swallow massive amounts of a test chemical to determine the dose that causes death. These tests can cause considerable pain and distress including blindness, swollen eyes, sore bleeding skin, internal bleeding and organ damage, birth defects, convulsions and death. Pain relief is not provided and at the end of a test the animals are killed, normally by asphyxiation, neck-breaking or decapitation.”

So if you have a pet rabbit, mice, cat, dog or just any furry friend and the thought of anyone harming them makes you upset then I would consider checking out the house hold products and makeup brands you use to see if they are cruelty free or not, one of my favourite blogs is cruelty free kitty as she updates if a brand has become cruelty free or they have stopped being cruelty free, in Europe testing of house hold products and cosmetics is banned and is illegal butttt that doesn’t mean here where I am based ( UK ) that I can buy any product this ban is over Europe and some brands sell in places like China where the law is to test on animals before the cosmetics or product can be sold their. So how do you know if a product is tested on animals? most companies that are cruelty free will state it on the back of their products, look for the bunny logo I say and if you can’t find anything on the product, then give it a quick google!

To help you out if you can’t find if a company does or does not test I am going to link you to cruelty free kitty’s list of brands where she tells you if a brand is 100% cruelty free, vegan or if they do rest on animals you can read kitty’s blog here, to name a couple of brands I personal use and love on a day to day basis who are cruelty free are make up revolution, makeup rev have some really great eye shadow palettes that I use daily as well as being super affordable, Barry M I recently got into using their foundation and I love it, not to mention the gorgeous nail varnish, Jeffree Star Jeffree’s cosmetics are 100% cruelty free and vegan his products are beautiful long wearing and hella pigmented.

I hope this post changed your mind and made you more mindful about what companies you use in terms of if they test on animals or not, you know they already have new methods to test if a chemical is harmful or not without using any animals but still to this day companies choose to this method is outdated and cruel. I urge you to boycott companies that test on animals and wear your cruelty free mark loud and proud so brands see it and listen to the thousands of people already cruelty free.

Thank you so much for reading this post it’s a topic very close to my heart, until next time.

  3. I’m in the process of making myself cruelty free at the moment! It’s such an unnecessary and preventable evil but I don’t think there’s anywhere near as much awareness as there should be! Thank you for writing this post ☺️

  4. This is such a lovely post spreading such great awareness to the topic. I am not cruelty free yet as I still have some products that I’ve had for a while but for buying new products I always like to go for cruelty free!

  5. I just get into cruelty-free recently, and it is interesting that I feel more likely to try vegan dishes. I am not sure if I will be a vegan one day, but it is an interesting and positive change for me.
